Beefer: You DON'T think religious opinions should be respected? I think you just wrote this to start conversation. I think they should be respected up to the point that they are repugnant to another's deepest ethics... -Sa

I think SOME religious opinions should be respected, but they shouldn't be respected just because they are religious. That's why I read the quote. Especially these days, people act as if a priest says something, it's law(that's especially true in the Catholic Church). I find that pretty repugnant.

Evan, I don't think it's necessarily bad to quote one's ideological enemy. I can agree with SOME of his opinions.

To be honest, I don't know that much about Mencken, either...but I like a lot of his quotes. I'll have to read more about him.
