A Succint Summary of European Feelings Towards America

That pretty much sums it up. And that is in tiny Schwabisch Hall, population 30,000! If you think that's bad, you should see the graffiti in "Red Berlin"

Dude, I know what you mean. When I was in Greece I noticed grafitti in the center of Athens joyously depicting planes crashing into the WTC. Fucking anti-american trash can't seem to separate the people from the actions of the government.

thanks for the comment matt!

athens is actually one of the more ridiculously anti-american places in europe. there are very specific reasons for that, too....i just finished "Balkan Ghosts" by Robert Kaplan, which pretty much lays out how the Balkans were the birthplace of modern terrorism...and he explains how American imperialism really fucked up a lot of the continent, including greece.

and yeah, the anti-american thing gets old, especialy since it is not nuanced at all. it's usually a knee-jerk attitude with no real substance. actually, though, i think most people CAN distinguish between the govt. and the average joe. i have never gotten outwardly harsh treatment in germany as an american...i just get lots of people telling me how stupid they think bush and the war are.

but read my new blog, where i tell amusing stories of what rural german high school kids think of americans...it's rather sad, really.
